Shop Hopping in Chester

As Lake Almanor becomes busier, so does the small town of Chester. Located just a few minutes drive from either side of the lake, Chester welcomes many summer visitors and passers-by on Highway 36. Each shop is eager to welcome new guests each summer.
Chester is well known for its many unique shops. From an old fashioned candy store to antiques and fine gifts, Chester has it all. Here are a few of them:
Old Fashioned Soda
Fountain
Lassen Gifts on Main Street has a great old fashioned soda fountain. Take a seat at the shiny counter and drift back in time to enjoy a sundae, shake or malt. Many gifts and their wide selection of greeting cards may keep you browsing after. Look for some of your favorite old fashioned toys at Lassen Gifts too.
Treasure Hunting
Right next door to Lassen Gifts you can hunt for treasures at the Rusty Chandelier where you can browse through antiques, quality furniture and eclectic home decor.
Junk and Disorderly is one of the newer shops in Chester and definitely worth a peek. You will find them at 160 Main Street with a vintage thrift shop filled with pre-owned goodies and new items too. Not far down the road you’ll find Another Man’s Treasure, another thrift shop with a fun and inviting inventory.
Fine Furniture & Musical Instruments
Don’t leave town yet; Sierra Wisteria is right next to the Pine Shack Frosty on Main Street. There you will find some gorgeous furniture, gifts and very unique accents for your home. If you are doing any decorating, this store will have something you can’t live without. Now they also sell musical instruments. From beautifully crafted mandolins to guitars, amps and other accessories, stop at Sierra Wisteria.
This is a great time to stop and meet Mike and Cathy Simmons, log furniture crafters at Morning Star Log Furniture. Their showroom is filled with all kinds of their handmade log furniture. They also have accessories like bird houses, bears, wildlife and art. They are out on Highway 36 just past the Highway 89 turn off for the west shore.
Fun Foods
The Coffee Station offers cozy seating and a full espresso bar. Order specialties like muffins and pastries and blended smoothies. This coffee house was once the original gas station in Chester. Ample seating inside, an outside picnic table and wi-fi make it a hot spot.
The newest cafe in Chester is Cravings Cafe Espresso Bar & Bakery. Find creative and delicious selections for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Scents of fresh baked goodies fill the air. They serve  house made Biscuits and Gravy, Belgian Waffles, Chicken Cobb Salads, Burgers and much more. Their menu selections are tempting. Find them at 150 Main Street.
Jeff Roe’s Pies and Produce features fresh produce and lots of it, baked pies daily and smoothies made with fresh fruit.
Sweet Treats
If you’re looking for some chocolates or other sweet treats to take back to camp, take a walk down memory lane with a trip to an old fashioned candy store. The Candy Shoppe is just steps off Main Street on Willow Street.
